Tornado recovery efforts discussed by Rep. Jason Smith in Missouri

Rep. Jason Smith, a U.S. Congress member representing Missouri’s 8th district, has been active on social media addressing the impact of recent tornadoes in his constituency. His series of tweets provide updates on the situation and express gratitude towards local leaders and responders.

On March 17, Rep. Smith reported on a tornado that struck Arnold, describing it as an EF-2 with winds exceeding 100 mph. The storm caused significant damage to over 500 homes and vehicles, leaving thousands without electricity. In his tweet, he acknowledged "Mayor Pro-Tem Gary Plunk, County Executive Dennis Gannon, and first responders for meeting with me to discuss..."

The following day, March 18, Smith commented on another disaster in Des Arc where an EF-3 tornado inflicted severe destruction but resulted in no fatalities. He expressed his appreciation for the local officials involved by saying "I appreciate State Rep. Tony Harbison, Sheriff Chuck Helton, the county commissioners, and members of the village board for..."

By March 19, Smith highlighted community efforts in Phelps County to assist those affected by the storms. He tweeted about aid activities before surveying the damage himself: "Whether they’re clearing debris...the outpouring of help from aid groups...is incredible." He also mentioned discussions with Rolla Mayor Lou prior to his visit.
