Rep. Jason Smith, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Missouri's 8th district since 2013, has taken to social media to express his views on fiscal policy and legislation aimed at addressing government spending. Smith has been vocal about what he perceives as excessive spending in Washington and is advocating for significant legislative measures.

On June 6, 2025, Rep. Jason Smith stated "Stopping the largest tax increase in American history is not what threatens our country’s fiscal well-being. It’s out-of-control Washington spending that does." He emphasized that "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill would be the single largest mandatory spending cut in U.S. history while also delivering."

Later that day, he posted another message highlighting the implications of voting against the bill: "A vote against The One, Big, Beautiful Bill is a vote to… → IMPOSE the largest tax hike in American history → STOP the largest mandatory spending cut in American history → DELAY much needed resources for the Trump Administration to strengthen our border and our national."

In a subsequent tweet on June 6, Rep. Smith reiterated his stance on federal financial issues by stating "Let’s be clear: Washington does not have a revenue problem; it has a spending problem." He underscored that "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill ushers in the single largest mandatory spending cut in U.S. history of $1.6 trillion."

Jason Smith was born in St Louis, Missouri in 1980 and currently resides in Salem. He graduated from the University of Missouri with a BS degree and earned a JD from Oklahoma City University.
