Rep. Jason Smith, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Missouri's 8th district, recently shared his views on various legislative and administrative matters via social media posts. Smith has been serving in Congress since 2013, succeeding Jo Ann Emerson. He previously served in the Missouri House of Representatives from 2005 to 2013 and holds degrees from the University of Missouri and Oklahoma City University.
On June 5, 2025, Smith expressed concern about delays in passing what he referred to as "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill." He emphasized that "each day that passes without The One, Big, Beautiful Bill being signed into law, more families, workers, farmers, and small businesses worry they will face the largest tax increase in American history." He urged the Senate to expedite their consideration of the bill.
Later that day, Smith criticized a recent decision by the Biden Administration regarding immigration statuses. According to him, "the Biden Administration expanded the immigration statuses of millions of illegal immigrants to claim them as ‘lawfully present’, making them eligible for Obamacare tax credits and Medicare." He advocated for "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill," which he claims would allocate resources to counteract these measures.
In another post on June 6, Smith highlighted former President Trump's mandate from his supporters. He stated that "President Trump has a mandate from 77 million Americans, and The Big, Beautiful Bill delivers on every single one of the promises he made to them." Smith assured constituents that Congress is committed to delivering tax relief and historic spending cuts.
