Rep. Jason Smith, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 8th district, has recently made several statements via social media regarding "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill." Smith succeeded Jo Ann Emerson in 2013 and has been serving since then. He also served in the Missouri House of Representatives from 2005 to 2013.
On June 4, 2025, Rep. Smith stated that "Not only does The One, Big, Beautiful Bill deliver on President Trump’s promises of no tax on tips, no tax on overtime pay, tax relief for seniors, and making his 2017 tax cuts permanent." According to Smith's tweet from this date, the bill would represent "the single largest cut to mandatory spending in U.S. history."
Later on June 4th, Rep. Smith further elaborated that "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill delivers ALL of President Trump’s tax priorities." This includes specific provisions such as "No tax on tips," "No tax on overtime," "Tax relief for seniors," and "No tax on American-made auto loan interest." He urged the Senate to follow the House's example and pass the bill.
On June 5th, Rep. Smith addressed a security concern by asserting that "The terror attack in Boulder, CO could’ve been prevented if President Biden didn’t leave our border wide open for 4 years." He emphasized that President Trump's immigration policies within The One, Big, Beautiful Bill would prevent similar incidents.
Smith was born in St Louis in 1980 and currently resides in Salem. He holds a BS from the University of Missouri and a JD from Oklahoma City University.
