Rep. Jason Smith, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 8th district since 2013, has been vocal on social media about legislative initiatives and economic critiques. Born in St Louis, Missouri in 1980, Smith graduated from the University of Missouri with a BS and earned a JD from Oklahoma City University. He previously served in the Missouri House of Representatives before succeeding Jo Ann Emerson in Congress.

On May 16, 2025, Rep. Jason Smith highlighted the potential impact of a proposed bill on hourly-wage workers by stating "80 million Americans work hourly-wage jobs. By eliminating tax on overtime pay, the One, Big, Beautiful Bill delivers President Trump’s pro-worker agenda."

Later that day, he addressed childcare costs for families with lower to middle incomes by mentioning "The cost of childcare has long been burdensome for middle and lower income families. The One, Big, Beautiful Bill provides working families with assistance by providing employers with tax incentives to sponsor child care."

On May 17, 2025, Rep. Smith criticized economic predictions related to President Biden's administration by asserting "We’ve heard a lot about a coverup of President Biden’s mental state, but here we have a coverup of Biden’s economic failures. Moody’s was wrong about Bidenflation by a factor of hundreds and predicted a jobs boom that turned out to be a trickle."
