Rep. Jason Smith, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 8th district since 2013, shared a series of tweets on May 13, 2025, addressing tax legislation and its impact on working-class Americans. Born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1980, Smith has served in Congress following his predecessor Jo Ann Emerson. He holds degrees from the University of Missouri and Oklahoma City University.

In a tweet posted at 19:07 UTC on May 13, Smith stated that "Today, the Ways and Means Committee is taking action to cut taxes for working class Americans, farmers, and small businesses by cementing President Trump’s 2017 tax cuts and expanding upon them, which will supercharge our economy." He contrasted this with the Democratic Party's approach to taxation. The original post can be viewed here.

Later that day at 19:45 UTC, Smith reflected on his background from a small community in Missouri with less than five thousand people. He emphasized the work ethic expected by American citizens and mentioned that "Today, the Ways and Means Committee is taking action to deliver REAL relief to the" public. This statement can be accessed here.

At 20:53 UTC on May 13, Smith highlighted economic successes during former President Trump's tenure. He noted that "During President Trump’s first term, working families thrived and small businesses were supported." He advocated for passing what he termed as the "One, Big, Beautiful Bill" to benefit working families and businesses again. The full tweet is available here.
