Rep. Jason Smith, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 8th district, has taken to social media to express his views on recent legislative discussions concerning tax cuts. Smith, who replaced Jo Ann Emerson in 2013 and previously served in the Missouri House of Representatives from 2005 to 2013, is vocal about his support for providing tax relief to American families.
On May 14, 2025, Smith commented on what he described as a significant reaction from Democrats regarding proposed tax cuts. He stated "Democrats are having One, Big, Beautiful meltdown about providing a tax cut to working class Americans."
Later that day, Smith criticized the Democratic opposition to specific tax reductions. In his words, "Democrats have spent *12 HOURS* opposing tax cuts for tipped workers, overtime workers, families buying cars, and middle class workers and families." He further remarked that the only unifying factor among Democrats is their opposition to Donald Trump and his agenda.
Continuing his commentary into the early hours of May 14th, Smith highlighted ongoing resistance from Democrats during a prolonged legislative session. He noted "We are in hour 14 of a markup where Democrats are fighting tooth and nail to prevent American families from receiving much needed tax relief." According to him, the policies within this legislation have garnered support from "77 million Americans."
Smith was born in St Louis in 1980 and currently resides in Salem. He holds a BS from the University of Missouri and a JD from Oklahoma City University.
