Smith mentioned "Very saddened to hear of the death of Whitewater Fire Protection District Chief Gary Moore. Chief Moore died in the line of duty, courageously serving his community. Sending my prayers to his loved ones during this difficult time. And sending prayers to all the families who have". This message reflects the personal loss felt by the community over the death of Chief Gary Moore.
In a subsequent message posted on April 5, 4:55 PM, Smith addressed the severe weather affecting a vast portion of his district. He conveyed that "The flooding across the 8th District is tragic. With more storms on the way, I encourage everyone to stay alert and listen to local officials. I am in touch with local officials and sending my prayers to anyone affected by these storms." Smith reiterated his commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of his constituents during the severe weather conditions.
