On March 23, 2025, Rep. Jason Smith expressed his condolences regarding the devastating impact of an EF-3 tornado that struck Bakersfield. He stated: "The EF-3 tornado that hit Bakersfield tossed vehicles into the air, destroyed dozens of buildings, and tragically took the lives of three people: Dana Ray Morris, Erika Ryan, and Tammy Zastrow. I’m keeping them in my prayers." He further commented on the extent of destruction caused by the tornado.
On March 24, 2025, Rep. Smith announced a formal request he made to Acting IRS Commissioner Krause concerning the New Georgia Project's tax-exempt status. In his tweet he said: "Today, I sent a letter to Acting-IRS Commissioner Krause requesting the revocation of New Georgia Project’s tax-exempt status." He attributed this action to allegations involving Stacey Abrams' use of the organization for her gubernatorial campaign in 2018.
