Born in St Louis, Missouri, in 1980, he resides in Salem and holds degrees from the University of Missouri and Oklahoma City University.

On March 14, 2025, Rep. Jason Smith expressed his concerns regarding President Biden's handling of harassment incidents against Jewish students on college campuses. He stated that "President Biden failed to protect our nation’s Jewish students when they were being targeted and harassed by agitators spewing Hamas propaganda." He further praised former President Trump's actions by stating "President Trump is cracking down on this harassment and demanding action from university administrators."

Later that day, Smith addressed economic issues under the Biden administration. On March 14, he tweeted about tax relief needs after what he described as "4 years of struggling under the Biden economy."
