Rep. Jason Smith, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 8th district, recently addressed issues regarding university governance and pandemic-related fraud through a series of tweets. His comments reflect his ongoing legislative priorities and critiques.

On March 10, 2025, Rep. Smith criticized prominent American universities for their handling of campus issues related to Jewish student safety. He stated that "@Harvard, @Columbia, and many other American universities were given multiple warnings by @WaysandMeansGOP and @HouseGOP to course-correct, maintain control of their campuses, and protect Jewish students. They failed miserably." He emphasized the repercussions these institutions face due to what he perceives as inaction.

The following day, March 11, 2025, Rep. Smith addressed the issue of pandemic unemployment fraud via Twitter. He noted that "Pandemic unemployment fraud has cost taxpayers, by some estimates, as much as $400 billion." He further highlighted President Trump’s mandate against wasteful spending and expressed support for House actions targeting those responsible for this significant financial misconduct.

Later on March 11, 2025, Rep. Smith tweeted about political opposition concerning law enforcement funding in relation to fraud prosecution efforts. He asserted that "Democrats are still trying to defund the police," criticizing their stance against a Republican bill aimed at prosecuting individuals involved in pandemic unemployment insurance fraud.
