Rep. Jason Smith, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 8th district, expressed his views on recent political events through a series of tweets on February 18, 2025. Smith, who has been in office since replacing Jo Ann Emerson in 2013, addressed issues related to presidential actions and policies affecting American interests.

On February 18, Rep. Jason Smith criticized President Joe Biden's decision to pardon Hunter Biden for felony tax crimes while an IRS audit was prepared for President Trump's Defense Secretary. He commented on this action by stating: "In the final days of Joe Biden's presidency, he pardoned Hunter's felony tax crimes while his IRS prepared an audit of President Trump's Defense Secretary. This stinks to high heaven."

Later that day, Smith highlighted concerns about trade practices impacting American manufacturers and workers. He praised former President Trump’s efforts in addressing these issues: "For too long, countries have gotten away with treating American manufacturers and workers unfairly. President Trump is demanding fair treatment from our trading partners and ensuring our trade relationships further America’s interests."

In another tweet on the same day, Smith noted the reduction in illegal border crossings under President Trump's administration compared to previous policies: "Under President Trump, illegal border crossings have plummeted to record lows. Unlike the previous administration, President Trump is not incentivizing illegal immigration and has made it clear: if you come here illegally, you will be deported."
