Rep. Jason Smith, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 8th district, shared his views on trade policies and American manufacturing through a series of tweets. Smith, who has been in office since 2013 after replacing Jo Ann Emerson, emphasized the importance of fair trade practices and support for American workers under President Trump's administration.

On February 13, 2025, Rep. Smith tweeted about President Trump's understanding of American competitiveness: "President Trump understands that American workers and manufacturers can outcompete those of any other nation." He highlighted concerns over a lack of reciprocity due to higher tariffs imposed by other countries compared to the United States.

Later that day, Smith reiterated the need for fair treatment in trade relationships: "When it comes to America’s trade relationships, we must look at every avenue – including reciprocity – to ensure that U.S. interests are treated fairly." He noted efforts by President Trump and Congressional Republicans to restore American leadership.

On February 14, 2025, he continued his praise for the current administration's actions: "American workers and manufacturers have an ally in the White House." He acknowledged several bold actions taken by President Trump within a short period to advance an America First Trade Policy.
