Rep. Jason Smith, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 8th district since 2013, recently addressed issues concerning college administration and student conduct through a series of tweets dated December 9, 2024.
In one tweet, Smith criticized college administrators for not holding individuals accountable on campus. He expressed concern that "things don’t get better" without accountability and urged colleges to "step up and do the right thing," noting that "Congress is watching." The full text can be found here.
Another tweet by Smith highlighted students' actions following what he described as a lack of leadership from college administrations. He noted that students are "doubling down" by publishing a “strategy guide” which they claim "answers [Hamas’s] call.” More details are available here.
Smith also commented on an incident at Sarah Lawrence College where its Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapter occupied and barricaded themselves inside a campus building. Despite violating school policy, the college agreed not to pursue disciplinary proceedings against them. Smith found this decision "unbelievable," as stated in his tweet linked here.
