School Bus Safety and Car Rider Line

We are constantly working to improve the safety and efficiency of our school bus and car rider drop off lines. Here are a few things you can do to help assist us with this goal.

  • Please pull all the way up in front of the double doors by the elementary office if you are the lead car, when dropping off your child. This allows multiple cars to unload at once.
  • If possible, please encourage/teach your child to unbuckle themselves. The less parents have to get out the the vehicle, the quicker the line will move.
  • Encourage your child to be at the bus stop 5 minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive.
  • When the bus approaches, remind students to stand at least three giant steps (approx. 6 feet) away from the curb.
  • Wait until the bus driver completely stops the bus and instructs the child that it is ok to load the bus.
  • If your child has to cross the street in front of the bus, walk on the sidewalk or along the side of the road to a point they are at least five giant steps (10 feet) in front of the bus. We want to make sure the bus driver can see that child and the child can see the bus driver.
  • Remind your child to never walk behind the bus. Always walk in front, so the driver can see you.
  • Teach your child if they drop something near or under the bus, NEVER try to pick it up. Always tell the bus driver and they can help the child safely retrieve the item.
  • We all need to remember to SLOW DOWN, BE ALERT, WATCH FOR FLASHING SCHOOL BUS SIGNALS/LIGHTS, and STOP ARMS.

how to support learning at home

We know that students learn best when parents/guardians reinforce the importance of family-school partnership. Here are 10 tips for parents/guardians to reinforce at home.

  1. Set up a daily family routine, including healthy eating and sleeping habits.
  2. Provide a quiet place and time for homework.
  3. Check your child's purple folder for assignments, study guides, and projects.
  4. Talk to your child each day about their school activities.
  5. Promote literacy by reading to and with your child daily.
  6. Limit and monitor TV watching, gaming, social media, and computer time.
  7. Express high expectations and standards for your child's learning. (Not all students will make straight A's and that is okay. Encourage them to always try their best. If they perform poorly on a test or assignment, review it with them and ask them to tell you why they felt that was the best/correct answer. Many times this process helps us to understand why the child may be struggling with a specific concept/objective.)
  8. Attend Parent/Teacher conferences, Open House, and Back to School events.
  9. Participate in decisions that affect your child's education.
  10. Take advantage of community resources with visits to your local library, museums, zoos, etc. Also, encourage participation in after-school clubs, sports, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc.
the importance of regular attendance

When children are absent from school, they miss out on consistent instructions that is needed to develop basic skills. Children who regularly miss school in elementary are susceptible to falling behind in fundamental reading and math skills, which can have a snowball effect that impacts future learning.

Elementary School Attendance Policy

  1. Students should not be absent more than four (4) days during each quarter.
  2. All absences after 4 days must be covered by a medical excuse. Failure to provide medical excuses could result in educational neglect charges.
  3. Students who are in violation of this attendance policy will be referred to the Dunklin County Juvenile Office.
If your child does have to miss school, please contact Mrs. Carrie Turner at 573-792-3113 Ext: 301. Also, encourage your child to bring home all missed assignments to be made up on the day they return back to school. Students are given one day for every day they miss to make up missing assignments, unless a different arrangement has been worked out with their teacher.

We are currently in the process of trying to get "After School" tutoring set up. We are hoping to begin sometime in mid-September. Please be watching for more information and enrollment forms in your child's purple folder.

Progress Report grades will be taken through September 16. The actual reports will come home the following Friday, September 23 in your child's purple folders. These are reports that mark the halfway point of our first quarter.

School Picture Day will be September 23, 2022. Forms will be sent home in your child's purple folder.
